Hi I’m Yaz,

wife, Mama, nurse, Doula, home cook, and dog lover

When I wasn’t working at the hospital as a nurse caring for my mamas and babies, you would most likely find me in my kitchen or enjoying the great outdoors with my husband and our beloved dogs. Now you are still likely to find me doing those things, only this time with my beautiful little daughter, Yara, in tow.

My love for cooking began in Brazil, where I spent the first eight years of my life. Pretending to cook outside with dirt and leaves was my favorite pastime, and I proudly told everyone I wanted to be a chef. As I grew, I realized what I truly loved was the way food brings people together. For me, it has always been about care, comfort, and connection.

That same desire to understand and nurture people first led me to pursue a degree in Psychology, where I deepened my appreciation for the human experience and the importance of emotional well-being. In time, I felt called to combine that foundation with hands-on care, which guided me toward nursing. It was there that I discovered my true calling: supporting women through one of the most transformative seasons of their lives.

Working as a perinatal nurse in both labour & delivery and postpartum allowed me to witness the beauty and strength of birth every day. It also opened my eyes to the reality that many women move through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with unanswered questions and often without the kind of holistic, continuous support they truly deserve.

This realization inspired me to create the Birth Unboxed podcast, where women share their stories and we explore what it means to navigate birth both within and outside of the medical system.

During my own journey into motherhood, I felt called to expand the way I support families. In addition to my work as a nurse, I now also support women as a birth doula, offering continuous, compassionate support during labour and birth. My goal is to help women feel informed, respected, and deeply supported as they move through their unique birth experience.

Today, my work blends both roles — nurse and doula — allowing me to offer families holistic care that spans pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Whether through in-home nursing visits, postpartum recovery support, breastfeeding guidance, or birth support as a doula, my hope is to walk alongside women with calm, knowledgeable, and deeply personal care.

I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. If something you’ve read has sparked your interest, or if you’d like to learn more about the support I provide, I would be happy to connect. It would be an honour to support you during this season of life.
